The Big Peach Ride + Run Podcast is hosted by Big Peach Running Co. Director of Marketing, Dave “D2” Martinez. We’re joined by Rachael Fenich, President of the Georgia Chapter, of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to talk about MS and how to manage it through medication as well as through exercise and diet.
Hey Friends!
The days are getting warmer and the humidity has arrived! That means running is going to feel a little harder than it did when it was cooler and drier. Make sure you’re hydrating, not only during your run but also throughout the day.
I had a great ride at the Move For Grady event over the weekend. It is a fantastic event that helps support the Grady Health Foundation. So if you missed it, keep an eye out for it next year. It is not just a cycling event, there are also a couple of trail running distances also available for runners.
This week Rachael Fenich joins the podcast to talk about Multiple Sclerosis. She is the President of the Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has been with the MS Society for over 4.5 years and previously was the Southeast Director of Development for MS. Her husband was diagnosed with MS several years ago and other members of her family have also been diagnosed with MS. So she was the right person to talk to about this disease many probably know very little about.
So what is MS? Multiple Sclerosis is an immune-mediated disease. This means that an abnormal response of the body’s immune system causes the disease. In this case, the immune system attacks the central nervous system (CNS) by mistake. The CNS is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves.
We covered a lot of the basics about MS on the podcast but the National Multiple Sclerosis Society website has a wealth of information on this disease as well as resources for those afflicted and needing additional information or help.
Until next time,
